10 Facts to help you get caught up with Aporia Agathon

by Jason ~ August 16th, 2008

In spirit of trying to keep everyone up to speed with the happenings within the game, I wanted to give a little something to our players. Many of these facts may be common knowledge to some players, while others may just be learning it.

Fact 1: A number of players have put together a good resource of information regarding the game at the aporia agathon project wiki: click here. The resource requires input from the players and some information may not be 100% correct - that’s just a disclaimer though a quick glance of everything seems pretty accurate at the moment.

The rest of this post may be considered spoiler information for some so I’ll make you expand a page to tread the rest Continue reading »

The art that is Cross-Media Entertainment

by Jason ~ July 23rd, 2008

This past weekend I was fortunate to attend ARGfest-o-con 2008 in Boston, and to meet many incredible people who work on these games and play them. I was excited to finally meet Brian Clark, Dave Szulborski, Jan Libby, Ken Ecklund, and many of the players which make developing the games so rewarding.

I had the opportunity to sit down with another developer and we discussed much of what the two of us were doing in our current projects. This discussion was very similar to the keynote Dave delivered to cap off the panels on Saturday. As as cross-media designer I am more of a story-teller than a game designer. A game for any purpose whether it is developed for brand awareness or solely for entertainment purposes needs to have a creative story attached to it.

Temporary Outage

by Jason ~ July 8th, 2008

Due to some technical dificulties Aporiacme.com was down for a few hours this morning. These difficulties appear to have been resolved and we apologize if there was any inconvenience for anybody.

Thanks for your patience,
Jason

The first of July has arrived

by Jason ~ July 1st, 2008

The 4th of July is the day many Americans celebrate independents. I mean, independence, but hey why not celebrate us independents too on the 4th? For those eagerly anticipating the release of our pet project you’ll have much to celebrate on the 4th. No, we’re not launching the game on the 4th but it is another day closer to Aporia Agathon.

We’ve made some modifications recently with our staff and are proud to have a few new members on board. I can’t name them just yet as that would spoil some of the atmosphere for many of you, but I can say that each of the new members on the development staff are experienced and wonderful people to work with. Though I do get harassed a bit more over my poor grammar.

With the addition to the staff come some changes in the initial launch phase of the game. I’m not going to say anything about the launch phase other than the fact it has changed somewhat, in a most positive fashion. We have, also, determined which of our staff will be available during ARGfest and are looking forward to a lunch on Sunday the 20th. If you’re coming to ARGfest and would be interested in attending lunch with the staff, feel free to contact me through our contact link and let me know so that I can make sure everyone is accommodated (please let me know before Friday the 18th).
We’re no longer planning lunch due to time constraints for our staff members who would like to do some sight seeing while in Boston.

Last but not least - We’re diligently working on a t-shirt design for our staff to wear to ARGfest (Graphic to be released as soon as it is completed). If you’re interested in purchasing one of the ACME shirts at ARGfest to help support the Aporia Agathon Project, please let me know by Wednesday the 9th of July (Size and contact information). I will be selling the shirts for $19.99 and will deliver and accept payment at ARGfest. The initial shirt order will be placed locally to ensure the shirts will be ready in time for the conference. After returning from ARGfest we will take the design to cafepress and make the shirts available to everyone with a $5 mark-up (all proceeds going toward the development and production costs of Aporia Agathon Project).

It’s been rather quiet round here

by Jason ~ May 21st, 2008

> компютри втора употребаnever fear for wonder-kitty is here. Perhaps nothing to do with a kitty I suppose, but just little ol’ me. We’ve noticed some feedback about how quiet everything is, but there are a number of reasons (especially getting this close to launch). Soon it’ll be so quiet around here you’ll hear dust drop.

There’s opportunities for you to become involved behind the scenes too. We’re still looking for a few actors and some video production/editing help. If you live in or close to Houston please feel free to send us a contact e-mail with some information about yourself. If you’re an actor please include a picture and/or a link to a short video clip of yourself. If you’re interested in video production/editing please send a sample of some of your work. Thank you for your interest!

Sitting down with the one and only RedHatty

by Jason ~ April 30th, 2008

Welcome to the Player Question and Answer session we began arranging last week. If you recall, we allowed our audience to send in questions and then we would chose someone to interview us. To those of you who submitted questions we thank you for your submissions and we’ve answered a few of them for you.

The individual who sat down with us for our Q&A is pretty well known in the ARG community, her name: RedHatty.

So if you want to know our answer to questions such as:

When will “Summer” start?
How do you all like working on this project?

Then keep reading. Continue reading »

Still getting closer and closer

by Jason ~ April 28th, 2008

With another week down we’ve introduced a new character and website (that is not hosted on GoDaddy by the way) to the audience of the Aporia Agathon Project. Some things are coming together well for the audience to further understand the nature of the characters and the story they’ll soon be faced with. We will admit that the website itself isn’t quite so easy to find, but if someone finds the one parked on godaddy, then they’re close and just a letter or symbol away(Google hasn’t been too friendly to us on these sites yet).

Coming this week we’ll be sitting down with one of our audience members for a player interview of the staff here at Aporia Cross-Media Entertainment. We’re looking forward to it.

Another note for those playing OLP - if you haven’t noticed, the story revolves solely around player responses. The conclusion isn’t too far away though and we hope you enjoy the little diversion.

How do you promote an ARG people know is coming?

by Jason ~ April 23rd, 2008

Our approach with this game, the Aporia Agathon Project, is different from many other games. We’ve been generating hype prior to the launch of the game through various teasers and story backfills we’ve released publicly. So what better way to further promote the game than to build another ARG for it?

This allows us to warm up on some of the things we’ll be doing (checking mail daily and responding), and hopefully allow players a little fun distraction for the time-being. We can’t really claim anonymity for this game as it was discovered through a blog post here on our news feed. With that, we proudly introduce Our Lost Puppy as the next game from Aporia Cross-Media Entertainment. Think of it as a short rather than a complete game as we don’t have the ability to create some of the really interesting we normally try to create, but so far it’s a little fun story (fun for me anyway).

On a side note: Our Lost Puppy is not related to the Aporia Agathon Project in any way other than the fact that many of the players suggested Aporia Agathon was about werewolves, so we turned that into an interesting little story as a means of showing our respect and appreciation for the thoughts offered up by these community members.

Take care and best of lucking helping to find Our Lost Puppy and remember that there’s still more teaser stuff coming out in relation to the Aporia Agathon Project.
